Recommendations

John Tsang, Founder of Esperanza

As an advisor to Bowtie, the first virtual insurance company in Hong Kong, I worked with Basil Cheung, who was then the head of marketing in the founding team of this nascent startup, on a number of highly successful campaigns to educate the public about the novel concept of a virtual insurance company and to build the trustworthiness of this newly established firm. Basil was bold in his attempts in using innovative approaches to achieve desired objectives. His tireless efforts helped put the company in a prominent industry position in terms of its unique branding and business development. Basil understands the importance of starting with the needs of customers, and working back to the technology. This customer-centric approach has served to put Bowtie in a leading position among peers. With his years of experience in the field, Basil is well versed in the art of marketing and public relations, and eager to serve the community. He is knowledgeable in brand management for technology startups in Hong Kong, and capable of executing implementation plans in his usual humble manner. Basil is a valuable asset for any firm.

George Chen, Former Managing Director, Public Policy of Meta

I worked with Basil on several marketing/public policy projects during his time first at Bowtie and then Preface. I was always admired by Basil’s passion and he’s also such a creative guy. Anytime you talk to him, he will bring up some new (and workable) ideas. He has a strong sense of being a “brand owner” and I can feel his loyalty to the company when he was working on the brand. He’s a very much “Company First” man when taking care of the brand, thinking of the pros and cons, and how to maximise the impact from mutually beneficial partnership (incl. with Meta/Facebook). He’s a different kind of marketer and probably shows you the future of marketing already now.
